Washington D.C.

If you're hoping to see pictures of the kids--sorry. There are no kids in this post. Our kids were having too much fun with Phil, Pam, Theresa and Grandma. We were in Washington D.C. John attended the Experimental Biology Conference and I walked around the city and hung out in the hotel--relaxing and not changing diapers. Prior to the conference we spent a day in Baltimore with Allen and Martha and had a great time with them. John had two poster presentations during the conference. He won first place in both! Yay!! He also gave an oral presentation on Monday. I was lucky enough to obtain a visitor pass and attend. He did a great job!! Tuesday we went to two Smithsonian museums and walked till our legs about fell off. It was so fun. I wish we could have spent more time seeing the sights of D.C., but what we did see was amazing and impressive.

Me standing in front of Chinatown. We ate lunch twice in a little restaurant that served yummy Chinese food. We also walked through Chinatown many times to get places.

The Air and Space Museum was super cool! There were tons of kids and too much to look at and explore, but we had fun. We also went to the American History Museum and our favorite exhibit was the "Star Spangled Banner" which told the story of how the song was written and even had the original flag that was flown over Fort McHenry during the war of 1812. The cool part was we had just been to Baltimore three days before and stood on the hill that overlooks the Harbor where the flag was flown!! It brought tears to my eyes and I left feeling love for my country and my flag.

Taking a break in between museums. They looked lots closer together on the map, but we walked everywhere and it was tiring. Behind us is the Smithsonian Castle. We didn't go it, but it was an impressive old church building.

We had to take a picture of C3-PO for William. He was so excited when he saw this picture. He loves Star Wars. This was in the American History Museum.

Behind us is the Baltimore harbor. Fort McHenry is to your right. I think this is Federal Hill which was built during the civil war to defend Baltimore from the Confederate army. We had a great trip and I loved all the history that saturates the east coast. Some day I'd like to go back and spend at least a month seeing more sights. It was a lot of fun being with John and seeing a lot of him. Our kids had a great time with family and we are grateful that everything worked out so well. Thanks to all who helped out!!
